Budapest Weather – The Weather
in Budapest is varies greatly from Summer to Winter
and also can vary considerably from one year to another.
Hungary is surrounded by land and
this gives rise to a rather extreme type of climate
compared to the countries of Western Europe. The country
is surrounded by mountains – the Alps and the
Carpathian mountains. Hungary with no sea outlet does
not have the warming influence of the Atlantic Ocean.
Hungary is quite a flat country and so most areas
enjoy a similar climate.
Budapest Summers are warm and sometimes
very hot with average nine to ten hours of sunshine.
The Spring and early Summer can be the wettest time
of the year but the rain tends to come in bursts and
during a rainy spell there can be heavy thundershowers.
The advantage of this is that the rain lasts only
a short time and you can get out again to your sightseeing
in less than an hour.
Winters in Budapest are cold and
there is usually snow on the ground for about 30 days
making this city in to a veritable winter wonderland.
The huge Danube River is sometimes almost frozen over.
In June, July and August the maximum
daily average is about 26-28 degrees celsius. However
in December, January and Febuary,
the maximum daily average temperature is as low as
1 to 3 degrees C. May and September
have maximum averages of 22 degrees Celsius while
April and October have a max average
of 17 degrees making for pleasant sightseeing.
